Seachad an Eòrna / Beyond the Barley
A Special Whisky Tasting with Rachel MacNeill
Scottish Rogue is bringing Rachel MacNeill to Glasgow, for an evening of whisky tasting, storytelling, music and magic!

Rachel MacNeill is the creative force behind the respected Islay Whisky Academy. Curious whisky lovers from all over the world have visited the whisky isle and had their appreciation and respect for our national spirit enhanced by Rachel’s teachings. More recently, however, Rachel has branched out and taken on the role of storyteller extraordinaire. Her Seachad an Eòrna (Beyond the Barley) graphic novel is a beautiful folk tale that tells of an epic adventure from the dawn of time.

Seachad an Eòrna is the story of three heroines who bring barley from the Fertile Crescent to the salt-soaked coast of Islay. They survive storms, commune with bees, learn to hunt and navigate countless dangers. Their journey west brings knowledge that forms the basis of distilling and the origins of whisky-making in Scotland.
Incorporating recent archaeological and anthropological evidence, along with Gaelic lore, Beyond the Barley – Seachad an Eòrna traces the history of the movement of people and agricultural production.
In the story, the girls, Mil, Speller and Drumm, follow the mysterious sound of the pipes, all the way to Islay. Where better then, to hold our tasting, than the Piper Whisky Bar. What’s more, the event will take place during Piping Live – Glasgow’s International Piping Festival!

Rachel will guide us through the story, with Scotch whiskies specially chosen to mark key moments in the adventure. It promises to be a wonderful evening, and with tickets limited to just 25, it’s one you don’t want to sleep on.
