BRAVE NEW SPIRITS

Scottish Rogue X Brave New Spirits

The July edition of Scottish Rogue’s Dram Jam whisky tasting sees the Glaswegian whisky events crew joined by Brave New Spirits, a city-based independent bottler and blender.

Brave New Spirits was founded by Adam Hochul and Alexander Springensguth in 2020. Since its introduction, the company has launched a series of bottling brands that showcase the full spectrum of Scotch whisky.

WhiskyHeroes is a selection of single-cask and small-batch releases matured in classic bourbon and sherry casks. Whisky of Voodoo is a range of small-batch single malt and single grain whiskies finished in interesting casks often sourced from far-flung locations. Then there’s Cask Masters, a collection of single casks, each chosen for their distinct character. Add in volume brands like The Yellow Edition, Lighthouse Blended Scotch, and Old Smitty’s and you have a compelling selection to choose from.

Witchburn Distillery

The Brave New Spirits team aren’t content with bottling other people’s spirit, however. A planning application was submitted in 2023, to Argyll & Bute council for a new single malt whisky distillery near Campbeltown. Witchburn Distillery will be located between Campbeltown Airport and Machrihanish Village, at the former RAF Machrihanish airbase. Planning Permission was granted in August that year and the whisky world now eagerly awaits the arrival of this exciting new project.

Representing Brave New Spirits at Dram Jam is sales & marketing director, Paul Dempsey. Paul will be a familiar face to many in the Glasgow whisky scene having filled many a glass at various whisky festivals. When he’s not distributing drams you’ll usually find him attending gigs – or collecting “Great Business Names” (iykyk).

Scottish Rogue were keen to work with Brave New Spirits, primarily because of the quality of their releases, but also because their contemporary (and cool) label designs are helping to push Scotch whisky in new directions. The eye-catching designs, often inspired by comic-book art, fit perfectly with the Rogues’ passion for bringing whisky to new audiences.

Brave New Spirits and Scottish Rogue bring you Dram Jam at the Old Toll Bar, Glasgow on Friday July 18th. Tickets available below.
