Scottish Rogue and The Tall Ship Glenlee team up to create Spirit of Glasgow, a magical Whisky Tasting event in support of a great cause…
Later this month, Glasgow will welcome the world to the 23rd edition of the Commonwealth Games. Scottish Rogue sees this as a great opportunity to showcase the wonderful whiskies that are made in and around the city, as well as highlighting the role that Glasgow has played in the development of Scotch whisky as an industry.
We’ll be running our popular Whisky Bar Walking Tours and Distillery Tours throughout the celebrations, but we also decided that the occasion called for something special. With that in mind, we have partnered with the iconic Tall Ship Glenlee to create Spirit of Glasgow, a magical evening of whisky tasting, storytelling, and music, on the River Clyde.
The Tall Ship Glenlee
The Glenlee was built at Port Glasgow and launched in 1896 as a cargo ship. This steel-hulled, three-master barque has sailed the world. From Scotland to the USA, or past the Cape of Good Hope, to Australia, she’s been everywhere. Renamed Islamount in 1898, and then Clarastella when she came under Italian ownership in 1919. She was then sold to the Spanish in 1922 and named The Galatea. There she served as a sail training ship for the Officers’ Navy School.
By the 1980s, she was in a sorry state and it was decided to scrap her but naval architect Dr Sir John Brown, discovered her and in 1993, she was rescued. Bought by the Clyde Maritime Trust at auction, she was repaired and given back her original name, Glenlee. Today, she stands proudly as a museum ship and tourist attraction. A testament to the city’s proud shipbuilding heritage.
We simply can’t imagine a better location for a special Whisky Tasting than the Tall Ship Glenlee, and we can’t wait to welcome our guests aboard. Whether it be tourists, visiting Glasgow for the Games, or locals, simply looking for a fun night out, we believe this night will have something special to offer.
We’ll be partnering with distilleries and bottlers to bring a selection of delicious whiskies to the party and we’ll even be offering some cocktails on the night too. To enhance the occasion, we’ll have some beautiful live music from some of our excellent local artists. Let’s really show the world what Glaswegian hospitality is all about.

Of course, it wouldn’t be true to Glasgow, if the event wasn’t for a good cause, and we have two fantastic charities to support…
The Clydeside Initiative for Arts (CIA) was founded in 2005 to create affordable spaces where artists, DJs, musicians and designers could work, play, and share their creativity with others. Over the last 20 years, they’ve hosted 3500+ musicians and performing artists, held 250+ art exhibitions, sponsored studio space for 60 new graduates, provided affordable studios for 300+ artists, held 700+ cultural events annually, created 40+ public artworks across Glasgow… the list goes on. The CIA helps more people get involved in the arts, build local connections and opens up creative opportunities across the city.
The Commonwealth Sport Foundation was set up in 2020 to create real, lasting change for people and communities across the Commonwealth. They believe sport is just the beginning. When designed and delivered well, it can open doors, build confidence, develop leadership and help communities shape their own futures. For Glasgow 2026, half of all Games-linked donations will be directed to Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, Scottish Sports Futures, and Team Scotland Youth Trust.
Spirit of Glasgow – A Night to Remember
We’re confident this event is going to be something special. The Glenlee is the most beautiful backdrop, the music will pull on the heartstrings, and the whisky will warm the soul. Not to mention, the whole evening will go towards supporting the organisations who are trying to make a positive impact across this amazing city of ours, and beyond.

SPIRIT OF GLASGOW WHISKY TASTING
Friday, July 31st. The Tall Ship Glenlee, Glasgow. 7pm – Late. £35.
A magical evening of whisky, music and storytelling on board the iconic Tall Ship Glenlee.
A welcome cocktail, followed by a tasting of five whiskies, accompanied by beautiful traditional Scottish music.
The proceeds from this event will go to two charities: The Clydeside Initiative for Arts, and the Commonwealth Sport Foundation.
