Scottish Rogue are delighted to invite Dràm Mòr, one of our favourite independent bottlers, along to the Old Toll Bar for the latest edition of Dram Jam.

Joining us for a night of cocktails, whisky and music will be the Dumbarton-based powerhouse that is Dràm Mòr.

Dràm Mòr is a family-owned business, run by husband and wife team, Kenny and Viktorija MacDonald.

The firm started as an export agency for Scottish brands but in 2019, they began bottling single cask Scotch whiskies and other quality spirits.

Kenny’s career began at the Food Standards Agency but whisky ran in the family through his Grandfather, a foreman at Ballantine’s Distillery in Dumbarton.

Viktorija, meanwhile, is a Lithuanian national, recipient of the Prince Phillip award for entrepreneurship and a speaker of 7 languages. Together, they founded the Mòr Whisky Club, based in Òran Mór in Glasgow.

Viktorija and Kenny launched their independent bottling line in 2020, with some excellent single cask Scotch whiskies. The quality of their releases, quickly earned them a following and they are now renowned as one of the best indies around.

We’ve been fortunate to sample a wide selection of Dràm Mòr whiskies over the years and are always impressed by the consistency of quality they are able to offer. Clearly, they have a nose for a good cask.

There have been releases from distilleries like Highland Park, Benrinnes, Caol Ila, Tobermory, Ben Nevis, Glen Garioch, Macduff and Balblair to name but a few.

Where Dràm Mòr really stand out, is in their application of cask finishes. Knowing when to “finish” a cask (and when not to) is an important skill for any bottler. More often than not, Kenny and Viktorija get things right and have worked with some interesting and unusual finishing casks.

Palo Cortado, Oloroso, Pedro Ximenez, Moscatel, Pino de Charentes, Madeira, Tawny Port, White Port… You name it, Dràm Mòr have finished a whisky in it, but this is no everything-but-the-kitchen-sink approach, each finish is applied carefully and sensitively, so as not to overpower the base spirit.

In short, these guys are nailing it right now, and we’re not the only ones to think so. Dràm Mòr are in demand, so we’re thankful that we’ve been able to get them tied down to a Dram Jam. We know we’re in for a very special evening.
