The Glasgow Distillery Company was established in 2015. It was the first distillery dedicated to the production of single malt Scotch whisky to operate within the Greater Glasgow area for more than a century. Over the last ten years, the distillery has developed a reputation for its bold and experimental single malts. As well as the original unpeated style, the distillery produces Triple Distilled and Peated versions and its Small Batch series explores various cask finishes. Sadly, the distillery isn’t open to public tours but can be arranged as a private experience with Scottish Rogue. Contact us for more information.

Clydeside Distillery Exterior

The Clydeside Distillery opened in 2017 on the banks of the River Clyde. The building was once a pump-house which opened the hydraulic gate that granted access to the Queen’s Dock. This connection to Glasgow’s rich history as a thriving shipping port and world-renowned shipbuilder is evident throughout the company’s branding. Thus far the distillery has released two core single malt expressions, Stobcross and Napier. Both are of an excellent quality and very welcome additions to the Glasgow whisky scene.

On the outskirts of East Kilbride, a little over ten miles from Glasgow, lies Jackton Distillery. Opened in 2020, the distillery has yet to release any of its single malt whisky but with 2025 marking the 5th anniversary it is only a matter of time until we see the first Jackton single malts. In the meantime, the company has focused on their RAER blended Scotch brand with several interesting cask-finished expressions released so far. A lot of work has gone into creating a visitor experience at Jackton, making it an excellent addition to any Glasgow-based distillery adventures.

The beautiful Glengoyne Distillery stands 15 miles northeast of Glasgow. Established all the way back in 1833 the distillery straddles the Highland and Lowland whisky regions. Glengoyne distills slowly in the time-honoured fashion and its whisky is often matured in ex-sherry casks for a deep, rich flavour. Glengoyne is a traditional distillery in a picturesque rural setting. It huddles at the foot of Dumgoyne Hill and its water flows down the hillside in a great waterfall. If you want to experience Scotch whisky making at its most traditional, Glengoyne is the place for you.

Auchentoshan Distillery - Distillery Tours from Glasgow

Despite being based in West Dunbartonshire, Auchentoshan was, for many years, the closest thing to a Glasgow distillery. Established in 1823, it uses a triple distillation method more commonly seen in Ireland than Scotland. Auchentoshan has survived various ups and downs, including the destruction of one of its warehouses during the Clydebank Blitz of 1941. That long and proud history, combined with the distillery’s traditional appearance make it an excellent destination for the whisky enthusiast.

Deanston Distillery lies in the village of Doune, near Stirling. It’s approximately 30 miles from Glasgow. The distillery was established in the 1960s but the building has been around since the late 1700s when it was built to serve as a cotton mill. Deanston produces a wonderfully fruity, malty and waxy spirit that has gained some serious recognition in recent years and the distillery provides an excellent visitor experience.

Tullibardine was founded in 1949, in the town of Blackford in Perthshire. Around 40 miles from Glasgow, the distillery closed in the 1990s but reopened in 2003. It is now under the ownership of French winemaker, Maisel Michel Picard. As a result, the distillery has experimented widely with wine cask maturation. The distillery itself is compact making it the ideal place to witness the production of malt whisky under one roof.

Loch Lomond distillery experience

Loch Lomond distillery was founded in 1964 in Alexandria, near the bonnie, bonnie banks of the famous loch. Despite not running public tours, the distillery is a fascinating place. Thanks to an assortment of different pot still designs, Loch Lomond can produce a variety of different whisky styles and even has its own cooperage onsite, where trained coopers rework and rebuild casks.
